The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is predictable – That’s a good thing
Prospects may be high for the forthcoming Samsung Galaxy S22, but for CES 2022 it’s the long- bruited Galaxy S21 FE that’s making its debut. Utmost affordable of the S21 family, the new Android 12 phone thresholds at under$ 700 yet still manages to keep utmost of what makes its flagship siblings feel special Though you might question just where the “ Fan Edition” phones really fit into Samsung’s formerly- crowded Galaxy line-up, the company insists that they ’ve formerly been a roaring success. The Galaxy S20 FE, for illustration, vended 10 million units in just over a time; indeed, since its launch in Q4 2020, it’s come one of Samsung’s most popular bias.
The Galaxy S21 FE’s aesthetic clearly matches up to that of the regular Galaxy S21, at least before you get too close. Samsung kept the “ Contour Cut Design” around the camera on the reverse, while the simple unibody also sticks close to what we ’ve seen before from the company’s flagship. It ’ll come in four colors white, graphite, olive, and lavender.
Effects feel a little different once you get your hands on it, however. The hinder panel is plastic rather than glass; only the display gets Gorilla Glass Victus. The edges around that Contour Cut camera section feel a little less crisp than those on, say, a Galaxy S21 Ultra. A little like, well, moldered polycarbonate. Still, it’s IP68 water and dust resistant At7.9 mm thick and 177 grams, it’s nicely slim and featherlight. Samsung has packed in a mAh battery, too, bigger than the regular S21’s mAh but lower than the S21’s mAh. You still get fast wired (25W) and wireless (15W) charging, still, along with Wireless PowerShare.
The6.4- inch screen falls in-between the S21 and S21 as well, though while the FHD Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel has a 120Hz refresh rate, it lacks the adaptive refresh on its more precious siblings. That means the Galaxy S21 FE ca n’t decelerate down the refresh for times when similar high rates are n’t needed, in the name of saving battery life. There’s also a 240Hz touch slice rate when in Game Mode For chipset, Samsung has stuck with the same as you ’ll find in the rest of the Galaxy S21 lineup that means a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 in the US, while other requests will get Samsung’s own Exynos 2100. There’s either 6 GB of memory and 128 GB of storehouse, or 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of storehouse. No microSD niche, mind The display has a 32-megapixel hole-punch selfie camera with an 81- degree field of view. On the reverse, there’s a 12-megapixel wide camera with Dual Pixel AF, optic image stabilization, and an f/1.8 lens. It’s alongside a 12-megapixelultra-wide with a 123- degree field of view and f/2.2 lens, and an 8-megapixel blowup. The ultimate supports up to 30x Space Drone.
Samsung’s familiar computational photography options are present and correct as well. There’s Night Mode – able of combining up to 14 shots for maximum dynamic range in low- light situations – and Zoom Lock for lower hand- shake at advanced exaggeration. Dual Recording combines videotape from the front and back cameras. AI Face Restoration promises better texture for eyebrows, hair, and lips, while eventually, Object Eraser cuts out unwanted corridor of the scene As for connectivity, there’s WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC, along with bothSub-6 and mmWave flavors of 5G. Out of the box, the Galaxy S21 FE will run Android 12 with OneUI 4, and Samsung is promising the same software update policy as its more precious lines too.
Really, as negotiations go, there’s a lot to like about the Galaxy S21 FE. It ’ll be priced at$699.99 when it goes on trade from January 11, 2022, in the US, and the Galaxy S20 FE will live on – for the moment, at least – as an indeed more affordable option, too. While those who ca n’t do without the bleeding edge in phones may want to stay a little while and see what the Galaxy S22 brings to the table, it seems Samsung has cherry- picked the stylish of moment’s flagship for a much more realistic price.
